Boone Next: Come to the Guide For Our Future Workshops!
Boone community members are invited to a variety of community meetings between April 29-May 1 for the creation of the town’s new comprehensive plan: Two community meetings and two informal drop-in work sessions open to the public and four work sessions for community stakeholders. These meetings are part of three full days of opportunities for stakeholders and community members to share ideas for guiding the future of Boone.
Comprehensive Plan Community Workshop #2: Everyone who calls Boone home is invited and encouraged to attend the comprehensive plan’s second community workshop. The first workshop was held on January 18th. The workshop will be held at Hardin Park Elementary, 361 Jefferson Road, on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 6 pm– 8 pm. During the workshop, attendees will view a presentation and will engage at their own pace in a variety of small station activities.
Focus Areas Public Meeting: As part of the comprehensive plan, the Town is studying four specific parts of town to develop policies that could best guide the future in those areas. Everyone who calls Boone home is invited to a public meeting on the four focus areas, which will be held at Council Chambers at 1500 Blowing Rock Road on Wednesday, April 30, 2024 at 6 pm. During the meeting, attendees will view a presentation about the focus areas, including existing conditions and opportunities, and will be able to provide their ideas on boards and maps.
Focus Areas Drop-In Sessions
Throughout the day on Monday, April 29 and Tuesday April 30, Town planners working on the comprehensive plan (Town staff and consultants) will facilitate small group sessions in the Council Chambers with invited property owners and other stakeholders for each of the four focus areas. There will also be two informal drop-in work sessions that everyone who calls Boone home is invited to. The two open drop-in work sessions will be held at Council Chambers at 1500 Blowing Rock Road on Monday, April 29 from 6-7:30pm and Tuesday April 30 from 9-11:30am. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, provide input, and speak with the planning team.

The meeting/session structure for the Guide For Our Future Workshops is designed to encourage active engagement and to ensure that every voice is heard. Combining structured information with the flexibility of open-ended conversation encourages a comprehensive exchange of ideas and perspectives. How do I get to the meetings without a car?
There are different ways to get to Council Chambers for the Focus Areas Report Out Meeting and the targeted focus area meetings. Council Chambers is located at 1500 Blowing Rock Road, the same location as the Town of Boone Police Department. If you have a vehicle, you are welcome to drive and park at Council Chambers.
If you do not have vehicle access, AppalCART, the free public transit system within the Town of Boone, offers two routes with stops within walking distance of Council Chambers. The AppalCART stop is the Postal St/Blowing Rock Road stop, which you can access via the Pink and Purple routes. Sidewalks are available along Blowing Rock Road from the AppalCART stop.
For the Community Meeting on May 1st, there are also many ways to arrive at Hardin Park Elementary School for the evening meeting. If you have a vehicle, you can drive and park at Hardin Park Elementary School at 361 Jefferson Road.
If you do not have vehicle access, the closest AppalCART stop to Hardin Park Elementary is the New Market Stop on Highway 421 available from the Green Route. From this stop, there are sidewalks available along New Market Blvd. Please note, there are no sidewalks along Highway 194 to Hardin Park, although this route is the quickest walk from the New Market Blvd AppalCART stop.
